MSS Infrastructure are currently looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team, based out of Birmingham Business Park, B37 7YN, supporting ongoing works across both civil engineering and rail projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and experienced Health & Safety professional looking for long-term, ongoing work across a varied range of infrastructure projects.

About the Role

As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will provide professional health and safety support across civils and rail activities, working closely with site management, engineers, supervisors and operatives to ensure safe systems of work are implemented and maintained.

The successful candidate will be confident working in a construction and infrastructure environment and able to identify risks, provide practical advice and promote a strong positive safety culture across site operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day health and safety advice and support to site teams.
  • Monitor civils and rail activities to ensure compliance with company and project safety requirements.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety observations.
  • Identify hazards and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
  • Review and monitor RAMS, permits and safe systems of work.
  • Ensure site activities are being carried out in accordance with approved RAMS.
  • Provide guidance and support to Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and operatives.
  • Assist with inductions, toolbox talks and health and safety briefings.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE and site safety requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe occurrences where required.
  • Assist with accident and incident reporting and follow-up actions.
  • Monitor housekeeping, access, excavation, lifting, plant and general site safety.
  • Support the management of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure relevant health and safety documentation is maintained and up to date.
  • Liaise with project teams and management regarding safety performance.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture across both civils and rail environments.
  • Carry out additional health and safety duties as required across ongoing projects.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Health & Safety Advisor within construction, civils, infrastructure or rail.
  • Good understanding of UK construction health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience working on civil engineering and/or rail projects.
  • Strong understanding of RAMS, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Confident carrying out site inspections, audits and safety observations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide practical advice and challenge unsafe working practices when required.
  • Strong organisational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
  • Valid CSCS card preferred.
  • Valid PTS card preferred.
  • Relevant health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH is desirable.
  • Rail or major infrastructure experience would be advantageous.
